Contestants Information This is where you apply for participation in GreatEscape2001®: The Global Scavenger Hunt™. We are limiting our 2001 international travel competition to just 25 Teams of two. We will attempt to honor and process all applications in a timely manner, but GreatEscape Adventures, Inc. makes no promises as to whether or not you will be accepted as a participant. Once the applications are in and processed, every Team applying will be contacted and interviewed as to their suitability for the competition. Some special events and group banquets will also be included in the price, as well as some ground transportation. The GreatEscape2001® price will not include: most meals, personal excursions/side-trips, medical services, visas, travel insurance, excess baggage charges, airport departure fees & taxes, entrance fees to designated scavenges, your purchase of designated items (which will be minimal), most of your ground transportation and transfers, expenses resulting in delays due to bad weather, trail, river, and road conditions, sickness, government action, other acts of Mother Nature, flight delays or evacuation expenses unless specifically indicated. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact a GreatEscape2001® Contestant Liaison at Applications@GreatEscape2001®.com. Teams will begin being notified no later than February 1st, 2001. After your Team's application has been processed and approved by GreatEscape2001®, each Team will be asked to provide a 25% deposit ($5,500) via check, cashiers check, money order or electronic funds transfer within 10 days of the time of acceptance. Complete and final payment will be due in full 60 days prior to our May 5th, 2001 departure date (March 5th, 2001). If your Team's application is accepted within 45 days of departure -- due to another Team dropping out or abandoning their spot -- full payment will be required within five working days of acceptance of notification by GreatEscape2001®. Failure to receive final payment on time will be interpreted as your Team abandoning your GreatEscape2001® spot. At that time, all previously paid funds will be returned within 10 working days minus a 10% cancellation fee. Documents, including the final voucher and airline tickets (to and from our official US Departure and Arrival destinations), will only be issued upon receipt of final payment. Because of the nature of GreatEscape2001®: The Global Scavenger Hunt™ being a type of Blind Date With The World and in an effort to decrease any potential advantages Teams could garner prior to the actual beginning of the competition on May 5th, your Team's international airline tickets will be furnished at the departing airport all together. Each Team will be notified which international flight all the Teams will be departing the US from a full 72 hours before departure. If a Team has paid in full and needs to cancel prior to GreatEscape2001®'s May 5th, 2001 departure date for whatever reason (all cancellation notices must be received in writing or confirmed by FAX immediately), the following cancellation charges may be applied at the full discretion of GreatEscape Adventures, Inc.: 61 Days or More 60-46 Days 45-31 Days 30-15 Days 14-8 Days 7 Days or less After May 5th = a 5% cancellation charge = a 10% cancellation charge = a 20% cancellation charge = a 40% cancellation charge = a 50% cancellation charge = a 80% cancellation charge = a 100% cancellation charge If GreatEscape Adventures, Inc. cancels GreatEscape2001®, another Global Scavenger Hunt will be offered. If that event is not acceptable, GreatEscape Adventures, Inc. will refund all monies paid to GreatEscape Adventures, Inc. to either yourself or your travel agent within 10 days of that refusal. GreatEscape Adventures, Inc. accepts no other liability. (Damn, our lawyers are good!) For U.S. residents, GreatEscape Adventures, Inc. will offer a supplemental and comprehensive insurance package that covers you for trip cancellation/interruption and baggage theft/loss. You may of course purchase your own policy from your own agent. Unfortunately, we cannot cover non-U.S. residents, so please contact your own insurance provider. (FYI: We strongly recommend you purchase trip and cancellation/interruption insurance to protect your travel investment at the time of sending us your deposit. This coverage will offset cancellation charges in the event of illness before or during the trip.) For insurance quotes please contact us at: Applications@GreatEscape2001®.com. After being approved for the GreatEscape2001® event, and by sending in your Team's deposit, you are certifying that both Team members do not have any medical condition that could inhibit you from participating in GreatEscape2001®. Some Team members may be required to provide a medical certificate from their physician(s). All contestant fees will be held in a GreatEscape Adventures, Inc. travel-related escrow account as mandated by law. These funds will only be used for direct travel related expenses (air, insurance, hotels, etc.) or for direct Team/applicant refunds (minus any applicable cancellation fees) under the law. Back to top Terms & Conditions If any GreatEscape2001® Team drops out for any reason after May 5th, 2001, there will be no refund. All rulings and judgments made by GreatEscape2001® road officials in the course of the competition will be final. There will be no right of legal appeal. Prizes: The First Place Team of GreatEscape2001® will receive $50,000 in cash, prizes and "The World's Greatest Travelers" trophy. The Second Place Team will receive $25,000 in cash, prizes and a trophy and the Third Place Team will receive $15,000 in cash, prizes and a trophy. All GreatEscape2001® Teams will receive certificates of participation. All finishers of GreatEscape2001® will receive special honors and awards. The winning Teams of the regional rallies will win $1,000 each. (We expect four such rallies.) The first Team that fulfills other GreatEscape2001® "Special Scavenges" will receive $500 per scavenge. (We expect at least four such special scavenges.) All total, $100,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded in GreatEscape2001®*. *GreatEscape2001® cash and prizes is based on a minimum of 25 Teams entering the May 2001 global scavenger hunt event and may be proportionally increased, or decreased, based on the actual number of teams participating in the event. (Lawyers again!) GreatEscape2001® participants will be asked to assist the GreatEscape Foundation in raising funds and support for our noble causes. Our GreatEscape Adventures, Inc. staff will assist you in every way possible in that regard. This, combined with our active press campaign, corporate sponsorships and travel partner programs, will assist in our collective fundraising efforts. We hope that all those who apply for entry into GreatEscape2001® share our vision of a better world through travel that promotes empathy, understanding and shared responsibility. GreatEscape Adventures, Inc. attempts to keep this website (GreatEscape2001.com) as up to date as possible to ensure online accuracy. GreatEscape2001® will be photographed for commercial use and portions of the competition will be filmed/videoed for commercial broadcast purposes. Teams will be asked to sign a release form/wavier as a Term & Condition of participating in GreatEscape2001®. Your Team as constituted when filing your Application & Registration Form may be changed at anytime with one Team member being substituted for someone else up to May 1st, 2001. No changes to Teams may be made after that May 1st cutoff date. You may not save, pass on, sell, or assign your accepted Team spot to any other group or individuals. Back to top Liability Agreement We don't want to alarm you and we hope we're not being overly negative when we tell you that the world is not a safe place. There's sickness and disease, natural disasters occur daily, official and unofficial violence occurs, terrorist actions take place, crime and accidents do happen. There is an Assumption of Risk in everything we do. We have great lawyers and we're sure you do to, so listen up!     We want you to know that GreatEscape Adventures, Inc. (GreatEscape2001®: The Global Scavenger Hunt™) won't be endangering your life or limb, intentionally or unintentionally in any way. We won't callously disregard your safety either. We won't ask you to climb Mount Everest, trek across the Sahara Desert, deep sea dive the Marianas Trench or cage wild polar bears in Alaska. We will be asking you to visit interesting places, eat interesting foods and take fun walks around sacred sites. You don't need to be a marathon runner or gym regular, but you do need to be able to take a good long walk in the mid day equatorial sun. The point here is that unless we at GreatEscape Adventures, Inc. do something directly negligent or terribly unlawful that causes you harm, then we're not responsible for your well-being. Understand? We're running an adventure travel and entertainment event corporation here, not a deep pockets insurance company. Remember, and we repeat, we highly recommend that you purchase insurance for any and all normal life-on-the-road travel activities you may encounter. Nuff said, by us anyway, but our lawyers aren't finished yet... (Good Luck!) By acknowledging, signing and dating the below wavier liability agreement, I agree that I have read all the above GreatEscape2001®: The Global Scavenger Hunt™ forms, including the Terms & Conditions, Cancellation & Refund Policy and the Liability Agreement/Assumption of Risk portions and hereby understand the inherent risks involved in participating in GreatEscape2001®: The Global Scavenger Hunt™. I also agree to all that was stated in the above sections as a conditional part of my applying for and ultimately entering GreatEscape2001®. I further agree, that as a big boy and/or girl, I understand and acknowledge that traveling can be an inherently dangerous and potentially hazardous activity, as well as really fun.
